18 Content Ideas for Instagram Stories

“I want to show up on Instagram Stories, but what do I talk about?”

This is the most common question I hear about Instagram, from biz owners who want to start getting VISIBLE on IG Stories!

If you’re not already in my Standout Stories community, you may not have access to a steady supply of story prompts + content ideas, so here are a few of my favorite types of content, for you to choose from!

1. Teach

Build credibility as an EXPERT in your niche, by teaching your community how to overcome common issues + reach their goals! Solve a problem in 3 steps, or share a useful technique you use to get great results, or share how you do a task behind the scenes.

Be a resource for your tribe, because that’s how you earn their trust and keep them coming back for more!

2. Inspire

Create a real emotional CONNECTION with your tribe by inspiring them to believe in what’s possible for them. Share a lesson you’ve learned from your own life experiences, or tell a story that inspires them to believe in their dreams, or show them what’s possible for them if they’re persistent.

This is where you set an example and truly speak to their deepest desires and darkest fears, and show that you understand truly care about them!

3. Share

The fastest way to build TRUST is to transparently share something you don’t have to. Share what’s on your mind this week, tell a story from your life or business journey, or open up about a struggle that you’ve had to work around!

Share anything and everything from behind the scenes in your business, AS LONG AS you’re doing it with the intention of serving, supporting, and uplifting your audience.

You don’t need to air your dirty laundry for no reason; always have an end goal in mind of serving your community.

Open up about a struggle or situation you’ve been through

4. Show

Create a deeper IMPRESSION by showing instead of telling. Show what you’re working on today, or how you do something your community wants to learn how to do, or the results of a recent project. Show anything your community can benefit from seeing, that will help them get closer to their goal!

This is your chance to not only shine as an expert in your niche, but also build trust + be seen as a provider of useful insights and strategies for getting further, faster.

5. Ask

Nobody likes a one-way conversation! ENGAGE your community by asking them questions about their likes and dislikes, hopes and dreams, situations, and anything else you want to know. Give them chances to engage back with you and tell you what’s on their mind!

Instagram Stories makes this easy to do with polls + question stickers, but you can totally do this on Facebook polls, Google Form surveys, or good old fashioned face-to-face conversations. Come up with some questions you’d like to know the answer to, and ask!

6. Celebrate

Create BUZZ around your brand by celebrating + expressing gratitude for the good things happening around you! Celebrate client wins + successes, the achievements or contributions of someone in your community, or a big milestone in your business.

Get creative, and get in the habit of celebrating what’s going RIGHT because everyone likes to be around positive energy, and your business is no different!
