7 Breakthrough Questions for Heart-Centered Coaches
“My clients and I keep getting stuck in the weeds… how can I elevate my coaching to be truly life-changing for them?”
As a heart-centered coach, asking great questions is the most powerful way you can facilitate reflection and transformation in your clients!
Having a few breakthrough questions up your sleeve will help you prompt your clients to reflect, see themselves and their situations through new eyes, and take inspired action in their lives.
Here are 7 powerful breakthrough questions for heart-centered coaches to use in their client sessions:
This is for you if:
You’re a heart-centered coach, who cares about facilitating deep, life-changing transformations in your clients.
You’re always learning new approaches to sparking fresh insight, and getting your clients to really think critically about their own mindset.
You believe in the power of asking great questions to facilitate deep change!
Question 1: Channel Your Future Self
If you received an encouraging letter from your future self about this situation, what would it say?
Tuning into your future self is a shortcut to accessing your “wisest self,” the part of your psyche that knows the truth and isn’t afraid to see things as they really are.
Your client will intuitively look past their own limiting beliefs to a future where they are free of them, and be able to see their situation more clearly through the eyes of their future, more empowered self!
Question 2: Strengths & Qualities
Which of your strengths and qualities will help you reach this goal?
When we’re up against a problem we’re struggling to solve, it’s easy to fixate on our perceived weaknesses and the ways we’re “not enough.” This question invites your client to reflect on the strengths and assets they have that will empower them to succeed!
At first they may struggle to answer, but after looking more closely into themselves, they should start to see glimmers of strengths and gifts they had forgotten to fully own and apply.
Question 3: Listen to your Heart
What does your heart want to tell you about this situation?
It’s easy to get lost in our thinking brains, which are pre-programmed to look for problems, obstacles, and reasons a plan won’t work.
We tend to selectively build up evidence against the actions we need to take to move forward, which keeps us stuck. But our subconscious mind can interpret larger fields of incoming data — including not only logic, but intuition — and see the real truth of the situation.
Question 4: Imagine 20% More Faith
If you had 20% more faith in yourself, how would you approach this situation differently?
Sometimes, just imagining an alternative scenario — like a world where we have twice as much courage — is enough to inspire us to make it our reality.
When we can visually “see” the positive outcomes of a small internal shift, they feel more attainable, and our subconscious mind immediately starts filling in the invisible steps to where we want to go.
Question 5: Overnight Transformation
If your beliefs/mindset about this changed overnight, how would I be able to tell tomorrow?
Belief shifts are often abstract, internal, and difficult to really wrap our brains around and understand. We can’t see someone’s beliefs or mindset just by looking at them — or can we?
When we start to identify the external, concrete evidence of a mindset shift, it starts to become more real. Our brains automatically start “practicing” those behaviors and actions, and we intuitively align our actions, body language, facial expressions, and habits with that new mindset, it starts to feel simpler and become more real to us.
Question 6: Letting Go
What is your intuition telling you it’s time to let go of, in order to reach your goal?
When we feel stuck, it’s often because we’re holding onto something that we don’t want to let go of: a sense of safety or control, approval from others, or pride in knowing we’re good at what we do (instead of doing something outside our comfort zones)!
But this question helps us look at what it is we’re holding onto that’s keeping us stuck, and what we need to let go of in order to move forward.
Question 7: Signs of Progress
What signs do you already have that your vision is becoming reality?
It’s easy to fixate on all the ways we’re not measuring up to our goals, and forget all the ways we’re making progress already. Even small shifts, like a decision to change, showing up to do the work, and spending time thinking about a solution, are critical to success and shouldn’t be overlooked.
Having your client remind themselves of all the ways they’re already making progress is important for building momentum and showing them that they really do have what it takes to figure things out as they go!
